What a nice place to dine on a hot summer night.
L'Oustau de
Baumanière has two Michelin stars and an exceptional location -
the medieval Le Baux de Provence village is named as "one the most
beautiful villages in the world". And those contrasting Provençal
landscapes that can take your breath away... When the night falls,
you can still smell the fragrances of the previous day and hear the
nocturnal insects waking up and starting their mysterious
concerts...
No surprise why, the cuisine of Jean-André Charial is mild, sunny
and perfectly embraces the spirit of its surroundings. It is quite
classic though, so if you are spoiled by the creativity of the
modern cooking and always in search for something stimulating, you
might be disappointed. (I was a little.) But, considering the
restaurant's overpowering location, the simpler -the better.

The amuse-bouche

"Egg, tomato water in clear stock, hot/cold "aioli" sauce". Very
good and very pretty.
The L'Oustau classics- " Preserved tomato "ancienne", spider
crab, "Bloody Mary" style sorbet". To be honest, for 65€
I was
expecting the explosion of tastes , but unfortunately that was not
the case. Quite dull and overrated dish.

" Thick piece of
Mediterranean bass, uncooked sautéed artichokes and calamari,
reduction of "bouillabaisse" .Classical and predictable
because of the "bouillabaisse" reduction but good.

" Glazed suckling pig, crispy pork rind, of star
anis taste" . Very good- on the other hand, crispy pork is always
good :)
