Vibrant Art Deco Inspired French Steakhouse with Celebrated Four Star Chef Christian Delouvrier Opens in The Windy City

Chicago, October 2007 – With the much-anticipated opening of Brasserie Ruhlmann SteakHouse (500 W. Superior Street, Chicago; 312-494-1900), Chicago diners will have the opportunity to taste a bit of Paris without leaving the City. This classic French Steakhouse pays homage to the great French Art Deco designer Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann whose work has inspired the decor throughout the restaurant. Situated in the landmark former Montgomery Ward Headquarters in the River North area of Chicago (directly across from Japonais), Brasserie Ruhlmann will be an exciting addition to this metropolitan neighborhood with a unique vibe unto itself. Having made his mark in some of the most notable kitchens around the world (Lespinasse in NY, Restaurant Alain Ducasse in NY, La Goulue Christian Delouvrier in Bal Harbour - to name but a few,) famed Four Star Chef Christian Delouvrier makes his Chicago debut at Brasserie Ruhlmann SteakHouse.

Prominent restaurateurs Miae Lim (Japonais Chicago, NYC and Las Vegas, Mirai Sushi), Jean Denoyer (La Goulue, Orsay, Le Colonial), Regis Marinier (La Goulue and Orsay in New York City) and Rick Wahlstedt (Japonais Chicago, NYC and Las Vegas, Le Colonial, La Goulue) have collaborated with Chef Delouvrier to create a unique property with the opening of this prominent French SteakHouse.

“Chicago diners have always been most welcoming of both Le Colonial and Japonais and we are excited to have the opportunity to open Brasserie Ruhlmann SteakHouse in our favorite city,” Wahlstedt said. “Our goal is to create a place where people from all walks of life can come to dine any day of the week, whether in search of a refreshing draught beer and light fare or a glass of wine and a fantastic meal, making it the ideal spot for any occasion, including a private event or celebration.”

“We were looking to fill the gap for what the Chicago dining scene craves,” says entrepreneur and creator Miae Lim. “We envision a grand and romantic setting that will be constantly buzzing with people freely mingling and indulging all under one roof.”

An avid collector of Ruhlmann’s art for over 30 years, Jean Denoyer has worked collaboratively with Rick Wahlstedt to design a space that recreates the charm of Paris without the slightest bit of pretension. Elegant inspirations from Ruhlmann’s craft lend a classic and timeless appeal to the impressive venue.

Guests are instantly swept away upon arrival as a drive-up valet in the remote back entrance escorts guests to the unique dining experience that awaits them, as if attending an intimate Parisian soirée each time. For a refreshing cocktail, impromptu meal or social gathering, guests can mingle at the café bar, where a dramatic 30-foot long bar serves as the backdrop for enjoying casual fare at high-top bistro tables or small banquettes.  Suspended above the impressive bar is a grand metal relief work of art, covered in gold and silver leaf, which serves as the focal point of the room, whereas mirrors strategically placed throughout the restaurant echo the movement of the crowd. Laying caddy corner to the main bar is an elaborate French Brasserie style raw bar, complete with towering “plateaux,” that feature a wide variety of shellfish, with classic selections and seasonal favorites, such as cherry stone clams, Taylor bay scallops, cockles and periwinkles, reminiscent of a visit to a Parisian marketplace.

Venturing further into the lively dining room, guests find themselves amongst classic design elements that echo the Ruhlmann style. Grand alabaster chandeliers are suspended from high ceilings that look down upon the intricate hand-laid mosaic floor, imported from France and a maze of roomy red velvet double-backed banquettes that can accommodate 200 guests.

Additionally, a full bar surrounded by bistro tables on a lush, café-style patio gives al fresco diners a taste of luxury as impressive French doors open to one of the largest outside seating areas in Chicago, accommodating 120 guests.

Executive Chef Christian Delouvrier will combine both classic and contemporary French technique to prepare dishes with the finest ingredients available. With passion and pride behind his world-renowned cuisine, Delouvrier himself is the key ingredient in this French inspired Brasserie where he will serve favorites such as Frisee aux Lardons, frisee, bacon, saucisses de Toulouse and a poached egg; classic Chateaubriand, for two Gratin de Macaronis, filet of beef for two (26 ounces) accompanied by Macaroni au Gratin and moist Organic Chicken, roasted chicken on the spit, bowtie pasta with peas, ham and Parmesan cheese. Delouvrier is looking forward to sharing his exceptional cuisine with locals and visitors alike.

The private ballroom, Emile, is ideal for special events, corporate functions and private dinner parties. Sharing all the best features of the restaurant, this room that can be divided into two individual rooms seating 60 and 50 guests each, brings the elegance and charm of Brasserie Ruhlmann to a more intimate setting for a celebration of any kind. From the detailed décor to decadent cuisine, this impressive space at 2,000 square feet is large enough to comfortably accommodate up to 130 seated guests or a cocktail party for 175.

Just as Ruhlmann’s art epitomized the glamour and style of the 1920’s French Art Deco style, Brasserie Ruhlmann SteakHouse also strives to carry on his legacy by providing diners with a stylish, fulfilling, consistent and memorable dining experience each and every time.

Dinner is served seven days a week from Sunday through Wednesday starting at 5 PM to 12 PM and from Thursday through Saturday from 5 PM to 1 AM. On these nights, an abbreviated late night menu will be available from 11 PM to closing. Lunch service will be Monday- Saturday from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Brunch will be served on Sundays from 11 AM to 3:00 PM.
